Barriers to Justice & Points of Pride Civic Action Project

Students will explore contemporary issues facing Afro-descendants within Latin America, with a focus on the lived experiences of Afro-Puerto Ricans.  The overarching purpose of this lesson allows students to engage in a Civic Action Project in which they create historical markers, commemorating various aspects of Afro-Puerto Rican history, culture, and resistance, with the goal of displaying and sharing their work within their school and larger community.
