Making Our School a Greener Place - Civic Action

The purpose of this lesson is to help students raise awareness about the impact of human actions on the
environment, and encourage students to think critically about ways to reduce waste and pollution. They
will also gain practical ideas and strategies for making their school a greener place, and develop skills in
problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration.

 

Women's Suffrage

The purpose of this lesson is to have students learn about: The historical context and significance of the women's suffrage movement in the United States; The major events, figures, and turning points that led to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920; The perspectives and experiences of women who fought for the right to vote, including their struggles, achievements, and challenges; How to analyze primary sources, such as letters, speeches, and photographs, to understand historical events and perspectives; Critical thinking and research skills through guided discussions, role-playing, and multimedia presentations, and the importance of civic engagement and the impact of social movements on shaping American history.

Voting Amendments: Exploring the Power of the People

The purpose of this lesson is to educate 5th-grade students about the importance and process of voting amendments, enabling them to understand the significance of their role as citizens in shaping the United States government and its laws, and empowering them to make informed decisions about their own civic responsibilities and duties.
