Exploring Invasive Species through text evidence
Author: Myla S. Liljemark, Alaska
Grades 6-8

Students will learn about how invasive species are introduced to a place, how they impact ecosystems, cities, and towns, and the efforts by people from these regions to control invasive species populations. Students will learn key vocabulary and how to choose strong text evidence to support answers to text-dependent questions. In the lesson, students will explore specific invasive plant and animal species in US Territories and Alaska, specifically, the North American opossum, green iguana, tamaligi tree, and brown tree snake, and they will explore their impact on the environment and people in those regions.
